A small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. Marks 42 years since American astronaut Neil Armstrong said these words when he became the first man to set foot on the moon. After so many decades, many countries want to reclaim the lunar astral.

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 made history. Astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon. His colleague, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, followed shortly.

The first landing took only two half hours, during which two astronauts collected rocks from the soil have monthly, did more tests and planted the U.S. flag. They were followed by the excitement of their colleague, Michael Collins, and the entire NASA control center. Upon returning to Earth, were greeted like heroes.

After landing, there were many voices who argue that the mission has not reached the moon and it was a hoax planned by U.S. officials to win the space race in competition with the Soviet Union. NASA has neglected conspiracy theories.

In total, 12 people set foot on the moon. A successful American space program, which runs today through a difficult period.

Because the shuttle Atlantis will be removed from service to return the current mission, the Americans will fly into orbit a long period of Russian Soyuz.

But future plans are great. NASA wants to get back to the moon, to install a permanent base there, and long-term plans to send the first humans on Mars.

An earthquake with magnitude of 7.8 occurred on Thursday morning (Wednesday evening GMT) Pacific. The earthquake occurred near the islands Kermandec, the tsunami alert issued for New Zealand and Tonga, according to USGS.

According to the USGS, the earthquake took place on Thursday at 7.03 local time (Wednesday, 22.03, GMT), 200 kilometers east of Raoul Island, Kermadec Archipelago part, to a depth of about 50 kilometers.

After the earthquake there are no serious damages, the local authorities said.

The July 6, 2011 Kermadec Islands region earthquake occurred near the Kermadec Trench where the Pacific Plate begins its descent into the mantle beneath the eastern edge of the Australian Plate. At the latitude of this earthquake, the Pacific Plate is converging with Australia in a westward direction at a velocity of approximately 61 mm/yr.

The preliminary mechanism and depth of the event suggest it ruptured a normal fault within the shallow oceanic lithosphere of the Pacific Plate; the initial location suggests a source slightly to the west of the trench, within the down-going slab, rather than to the east and in the outer rise.

The July 6 earthquake struck in an oceanic region with few nearby populations, approximately 550 km south of Tonga and 650 km north of New Zealand. This region of the Tonga-Kermadec subduction zone experiences reasonably high levels of seismic activity, with nearly 50 events of M 6.5 and above over the past 38 years, and 4 greater than M 7.5.

Two of these, M 7.8 and M 8.2 earthquakes on the same day in 1976, occurred just over 150 km west-northwest of today’s event; an M 7.8 event in 1978 struck nearly 200 km to the southwest, and an M 8.3 event occurred in October 1986, about 130 km to the north. None of these events have recorded damage or casualties, according to USGS.
