The singer Kanye West hired a little help from a media trainer before his disastrous interview on the Today.He appeared on the show to respond to claims made by George W. Bush that West’s calling him racist was the worst moment of his presidency.
A close source said: “West shut himself in a dressing room with Susie, and could be heard rehearsing possible questions and answers. But the interview began, and it was as though he had crammed for a test and then his mind went blank.”
Kanye West went on the show and grew agitated when they showed a clip of him stage crashing Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV VMAs.
He barked:“Yo, how am I supposed to talk if you’re going to run the thing in the middle while I’m talking?”.
Kanye West “huddled again with the media trainer because he still hadn’t found a way to express himself.”
West’s overreaction was nothing more than petulance. As any media aficionado will tell you, cutting to clips while interviewing a subject adds context to the story. It gives it structure.
