Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the subscriber base of ‘World of Warcraft “now is more than 12 million players worldwide.
This milestone was reached after the launch in mainland China ‘Wrath of the Lich King’, the second expansion to ‘World of Warcraft’, and also a consequence of global anticipation for the future launch on December 7, ‘Cataclysm’ The third expansion pack.
“The support and enthusiasm continue to show the players around the world for World of Warcraft reaffirms our view that the game offers one of the best entertainment services available today,” said CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime.
Since its inception in the United States, Australia and New Zealand on November 23, 2004, ‘World of Warcraft’ has become a subscription-based MMORPG world famous.
It was the best selling PC game in the world in 2005 and 2006 and in 2007, finished just behind ‘World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade’, the first expansion for the game. In 2008, the series had three of the five best-selling PC games with ‘Wrath of the Lich King’ at the top end of the year. In 2009, the title of ‘World of Warcraft’ occupied three of the top six.
Currently, ‘World of Warcraft’ is available in eight languages and is played in North America, Europe, mainland China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Chile, Argentina and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
