Steam was cracked, the confidential data at risk

The customer today who started Steam digital distribution system were not greeted by very pleasant, through which Gabe Newell acknowledges that all Forums and Steam customer database had been compromised after a hacker attack.

It all started on November 6, when Steam forums were attacked. Valve started the investigation that led to the conclusion that during the attack, hackers obtained access to the database with the name Steam clients, their passwords (encrypted), purchase histories, e-mail addresses billing and credit card related data used (again encrypted).

However, according to Newell’s, there is no evidence that even hackers stole personal data of customers Steam or reports about credit card use associated Steam accounts.

Although it was not given an exact date on which the Steam forums are back online, daddy Gates said that absolutely all Forum users will have to go through a process of change passwords when the situation will be remedied. Moreover, even if this step is not necessary for actual Steam account, it would be a bad idea to change these passwords (via the Steam client) and turn Steam Guard, if you have not already done so.
