In northern Sumatra Island, the volcano blows again
A volcano from Indonesia blows again, after 400 years shot ash 5 km/3 miles into the air on Tuesday. Its biggest eruption since it became active last week, and experts warned that more blasts are to come.In northern Sumatra Island, the Mount Sinabung first erupted on 29 August, and everybody was evacuated.
Indonesia chief vulcanologist Surono said:”It was the biggest eruption yet and the sound was heard from 8 kilometres away. The smoke was 5,000 metres in the air,” he added “I think this will not be the last eruption. It will happen again.”
Heavy rain and ash is falling from the sky as muddy precipitation. Electricity in one village has been cut off, but there have so far been no casualties, on the area around the volcano is largely agricultural and nearest big city Medan, some 50 Kilometers away.
